INZ update: New age and evidence rules for some partnership-based visas

From 25 September 2026, new minimum-age and partnership-evidence rules apply to certain partnership-based visa applications. Check the requirements for your visa before applying.

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has announced a change to age and partnership-evidence requirements for certain partnership-based visa applications, effective 25 September 2026.

Under the update, both the applicant and supporting partner must be aged 18 or older when the application is made. INZ will recognise partnership evidence only from the time both partners were aged 18 or older.

The change applies to certain partnership-based applications. Check the current INZ instructions for the visa you plan to apply for, including the exact scope of the change, before lodging.
